  Fallout from the apostate-bashing WT article?

  i've noticed there are a few excellent threads on here about sunday's 9/11 watchtower study.

  my own analysis of its more blatantly farcical claims (including that of apostates being "mentally diseased") can be seen here.. what i really wanted to know is - what has the fallout been?

  has it created any horror-stories within people's families or homes, etc?

  Sounds like the GB have built up th efear of 'apostates' to such a high degree it's become a non reality. The term is now so mystical that it has no substance in reality.

  thats true. i was talking with an uber-dub once about this guy we both know who left the "truth" and is quite open about talking with others about what we'd call here, talking about what's wrong with the religion. right away the dub warned we should stay away from him because "not only did he leave the truth, he's BORDERLINE APOSTATE!!!"

  recently stopped studying, and stopped in the street to talk to a jw i met during my time studying.

  we were sorta friends (well, in the small way jw's and worldlies can be) and here's how it went:.

  How many on JWN still trapped in Org. & will it get easier with time?

  i have only been mentally out for just over a year and i find it difficult to live this double life, ( ex-elder/reg pioneer).

  i'm still in for probably the same reason as most who post here=.

  a wife that i cherish= who would be destroyed and kick me to the curb.

  i'm in a similar situation, and speaking from my own experience, i would say that faking it whilst you know what you know about the "truth", becomes impossible after a while as your heart just isn't in it anymore, and that eventually becomes apparent to those around you.

  in my experience, i'd say this makes it get easier in certain aspects. for example, expectations of me got lower, and they eventually give up hassling you about missing service, you don't get asked to do as many "privileges", stuff like that.

  it does get harder too, in that with time you just get more and more fed up with being at the meetings and dealing with the social pressure, and some friends start to seem more distant.

  Are there any songs that remind you of being a jw ?

  this afternoon the song music box dancer came on the radio and i was instantly transported back to 1978 when my best jw friend got married.. this was "their" song ,, they are now divorced and one of them left the religion and is remarried.. another song that makes my skin crawl from a jw standpoint is mambo # 5.. there was an elder from my old hall, j. renfroe who always was telling the young people what music was acceptable for them to listen to.. and this guy was just so opinionated regarding everything.. so one time at a wedding this song comes on and he starts dancing almost uncontrollably.

  it was agony to watch, and i ( and many others felt embarrassed for him because of how he was dancing and how his self rightous opinions seemed to be thrown to the wind this evening.. any other examples of music that became tainted from a jw experience ?.

  great article! i give it facebook style "like" thumbs up. :P

  the sad part is that if this was really in the WT, the majority of jdubs would probably accept it as deep, well-researched spiritual enlightenment! (except maybe the sentence about historians, archeologists, and astronomers pointing to the factual evidence of 587)

  Do most JW's belive their own private version of the religon?

  trying to work with jw's and their cd i notice that the harder i push their beliefs the more likely they are to hit back with some werid version of jw belives that exsists only in their own head.. its almost like they listen to the bs from the platform, run it through their head and then process it through their own filter and end up with a bastardised version of "the truth" that they feel comfortable with.. .

  anyone else encountered this?

  and whats your theory about it?.

  yep, definitely agree with this thread. i think in part it's to do with the fact that these days official doctrine is hard to come by in the magazines or at the meetings. now it's all about christian qualities, (but that's a different topic).

  when i was still mentally in, i often thought and said it too, that there may be things that don't make sense or seem contradictory, but that Jehovah doesn't ask of us that we need to understand or agree with it all, just that we do his will. gradually i became less vocal about it when i started seeing Adam and Eve as a symbolic account while still believing we had the Truth. i just thought we had certain details wrong but still had the right "big picture". :P

  there are times when i hate the borg.

  when i think about my lost childhood in it, the draconian level of authority and all the idiots i had to put up with over the years, i get very bitter, angry and resentful.. i went through a stage of turning the other cheek and praying for thine enemies but that didn't really work for me.

  i remained on boiling point, simmering under the surface.. i now have reached a more pragmatic viewpoint.

  we dream of the day we see the tower fall to the ground. many would feel freed or shocked and move on with their lives, but i would fear for the old generation of lifers who have put their whole life into this. could be scary to see what would happen to them
